Videos offer an excellent visual way of communicating with an audience. The production of video content involves different phases. The three main stages of production of videos are:
1. Pre-Production Stage
The pre-production stage is where all the planning takes place before the video shooting commences. If the video production is for commercial media or a certain industry, the pre-production stage will include;
• The video project kicks off
• The schedule of production
• Content research
• Script development/writing
• Story-boarding
• Graphic concept
• Casting and hiring of crew
• Scouting of shooting location
• Wardrobe and prop identification as well as preparation
• Preparation for post-production
Everything about the video production logistics must be well coordinated at this point based on the script before the production begins.
2. Production Stage
This is where all the action begins and everything that was planned under the pre-production phase will now be recorded. The Production process captures all the information and the scenes outlined in the preproduction. During this stage, various equipment and requirements may be applied including the footage composition, framing, and lighting. Note that some scenes may be recorded as the B-Roll i.e. a supplementary video footage which may be included after the whole video has been compiled. It’s the responsibility of the production crew to capture clear image details and sounds.
3. Post-Production Stage
This is the final stage of video production and the process usually begins after the whole video footage that was outlined in the script has been captured. Post-production is basically the editing phase and the production crew usually dwells on the audio footage, the videos recorded and then assemble the different parts according to the script. Sound effects, music, sound design, visuals effects e.g. color correction and other special effects are normally added at this stage.
Production of high-quality videos needs a quality-assurance system and an experienced crew with amazing project management skills and strategies.
